Whipping Up Your First Blog Post: Launching in Style
By AllieRambles
JUMP IN!
You have great ideas you want to write about. So you started a blog. But at the moment you have stage fright. Actually it is "first post fright." What should my very first post say?
What if I write something stupid? What if I regret what I wrote later on? What if nobody reads it?
"What if" will get you nowhere. Just Jump In! Start writing. You won't be stupid. If you regret what you write, delete it later. And, actually, unless you are already known, there is a huge chance nobody is going to read your first blog post. BUT! If you market (use social networking and SEO correctly) people will come, and read that first post. So let's do it right.
WHAT SHOULD YOU WRITE?
1. A Pinnacle Post
This is a strong statement about a subject you write about on your blog. It is a post you have put much time, research and energy into. This is the ONE you want people to remember and spread around the internet.
Don't take it lightly. Really do a good job and check your facts. If it is autobiographical be sure to be thorough.
A pinnacle post will set the stage for future posts; this is what your readers will use to set the standard in the future. Make it count.
2. About Yourself
This post talks about you, the blogger, the person. It answers questions your readers want to know like how you started, who you are, what are your qualifications, why do you blog?
This post can later be used in your About Me section which is vital to all blogs.
This is a great starting post for people wanting to blog about their lives.
3. Tell a Story: Fact or Fiction
With this first post you can be write fact or fiction. Just be sure to tell your readers if it is true or not. (It is a bad idea to lead your readers on with false information, they will not trust you and not come back.)
Just tell a story related to your blog's theme. People love to read about other people's lives or hear tales of success.
This is your chance to be funny or sarcastic. Serious or lighthearted. It is a chance for your reader's to get a glimpse of your writing proficiency.
4. State Your Blog Goals.
Letting your readers know from the get go what to expect will keep them in anticipation, which is a good thing. You always want to try to get readers to come back and be loyal.
People will want to see if you reached your goals, changed them or simply quit. They want to relate and learn from you.
There you have it.
Don't be shy about getting that first post out. And don't be like me and write a wishy washy clueless post. Frankly, I wish I knew about the best way to start a blog.
The best advise I could give is show confidence, even if you don't have it. Be focused on your blog goals and your first post will reflect that.
Just whip it up like you are a pro.
